Steel band educators and musicians just like you

We Are Teachers & Musicians

We are steel band educators and musicians who care deeply about the steel pan and its development in education. As such, we understand what steel band directors and students want. You want a variety of great music to showcase the range and versatility of your instrument. You want resources to help develop young players, and a repertoire to challenge the advanced ones. All of us at Engine Room Publishing are music teachers, and we understand what you need.

Contributing to the Steel Pan Movement

Many wonderful things are happening in pan right now. There are more steel band programs at all levels—primary, secondary, college and the community. There are a greater number of pieces being written for steel band and pan. This is truly a promising time to be involved. We wanted to help out, so Engine Room Publishing began in 2008 with the idea of connecting steel band directors with other steel band directors. How many times have you heard an arrangement and thought, I’d really like to play that! only to find out it’s not published anywhere? How many times have you looked in your library needing a piece within a certain style or difficulty level, unable to find one?

We have started to roll out a few dozen compositions and arrangements that we have tested in our bands. Each piece is coded with a difficulty level and includes the ranges for each part. We do this because we want you to be able to make the best decision when purchasing a chart. In most cases, you’ll also find an audio sample of our pieces from actual performances. We add more pieces every week, so check back often!
