This is a fun, high-energy calypso that will have the audience up on their
feet! I composed “Carpe Diem” during the time I had the Sons Of Steel
steel band. It was written with performance in mind with lots of room for
cool choreography, which the “Sons” were known for during our live
concerts.
“Carpe Diem” (latin for seize the day…and that’s what this tune does), has
a little bit of everything for the steel band. Very upbeat, a blast to play, and
each section in the band gets a time to shine! Nice dynamics in the middle
of the tune give way to a Latin jam that climaxes to end the tune.
This one was a favorite of ours and of our audiences. So much so that we
named one of our CDs after it. Carpe Diem…seize the day, was and is my
motto for life!
This piece is reminiscent of old time calypsos with a typical I, IV, I, V progression, sections with call and response phrases and short sing-able melodies.
This collection contains seven solos for tenor pan, a duet for tenor and cello and a chamber piece for tenor, double seconds, cello and six bass from pan rocker Tracy Thornton. Difficulty levels range from beginner to advanced.
